We are very fortunate to have had the second 3D Cone Beam Low Radiation CT Scanner in the UK, installed at Brickstables in 2007. Published reports indicate that the effective dose of radiation is significantly reduced by up to 98% compared to "conventional" fan-beam CT systems.
Radiology is important in the diagnostic assessment of dental patients. Radiographic images help in the diagnosis, treatment planning and follow up of patients with conditions affecting the head, face, teeth and jaw.
For most dental practitioners, the use of advanced imaging has been limited because of cost, availability and radiation dose considerations however the introduction of cone beam tomography provides opportunities for dental practitioners to request multiplanar images.
When a clinician requests a CT scan, Dr Rossouw will take the scan for you in our scanner room. The procedure is very quick and easy. The scanner rotates around the head 360deg for approximately 14 seconds. The image is then sent directly via computer to your dental record folder allowing Dr Rossouw to then discuss the scan in detail with you at your appointment.
There are many advantages of using this technique over bite wing radiographs taken in the surgery.
Our cone beam scanner is one of only a few in dental practices across the East of England and we offer a very competitive price of £120 per scan. This includes the image being downloaded onto a disc or another media device.
